Samsung Galaxy Tab – the second new blood in tablet PC

Posted in Portable Players on September 17th, 2010 by melody – Comments Off

Samsung Galaxy TabWe could not deny the Apple’s great innovation on tablet PC with its iPad. But we are also glad to see more choices for us if Apple iPad is too expensive for us to afford it, or there may be new services different from iPad, such as Samsung Galaxy Tab. It is the second new blood in tablet PC, which also allows consumers to purchase or rent TV shows and movies on their Samsung mobile devices.

At an event here at the Time Warner Center on tonight, Samsung took the wraps off its iPad-killer, the Galaxy Tab. It also announced a new service called Media Hub, an iTunes-like service, which allows consumers to buy and rent movies and TV shows for their Samsung portable devices.

The announcements follow Samsung’s launch earlier this summer of the Galaxy S smartphone, the closest competitor Samsung has to the iconic Apple iPhone.

The new Galaxy Tab and Galaxy S smartphone run the Google Android operating system, an open software platform that rivals Apple iOS, which is used on the iPhone and iPad. read more »

The School buy iPads instead of books for Kids

Posted in Portable Players on September 13th, 2010 by melody – Comments Off

ipads-school-1What lucky kids in that school! They can have the new exquisite gadget from Apple for study. Of course entertainment is not allowed in the class. That private Cedars school in Scotand has given sleek new iPads to every single one of its pupils to use in class and to even take home.

It’s the brainchild of Fraser Speirs, the IT director of Cedars School of Excellence in Greenock, who wanted to solve the problem of the school’s computer lab, which had 12 desktops and 12 laptops, constantly being overbooked.

First he thought of giving everyone iPod Touches, but that wouldn’t have allowed them to do serious work like writing essays. Then the iPad was launched, and it now takes care of 99% of the work the students need to do.

You could argue that school can afford this because it’s a private school. But Fraser Speirs points out that the total costs (around £58,000, or $89,400 over three years) are amortized across every class, and long term the school is saving money on photocopying, paper, pens and eventually, books. read more »

Does Archos 7 worth its high price?

What I concern most about Archos 7 is its price. Why is it so expensive? The hightest price tag is $617.95, which is even higher than that of Apple iPad 32G WiFi only version. First of all, it has a super capacity of 320GB. And Archos 7 introduces a new concept: the Internet Media Tablet. The Archos also 7 offers customers uncompromised access to the Internet, media content and TV in a handheld device.

Archos also features a 7-inch TFT LCD touchscreen and 800*400 pixel resolution with 16 million colors. The amazingly sharp and high-resolution screen lets you navigate effortlessly through the web just like you would on a PC. Surfing on a handheld device has never been so fast and smooth. The full email application lets you read, write, download and send attachments, and manage your contacts. Browsing becomes almost seamless with the ARM Cortex processor and the Adobe Flash 9 video support.

Enjoy your ARCHOS 7 content back on your TV, with the DVR Station. Schedule recordings in few clicks any TV program from you cable channels or your setup box, and choose when and where you want to watch them. Play back all your digital content from your ARCHOS 7 to your TV, even in HD quality, at 720p. With the TV snap-on, digital free TV is broadcast live on your Internet Media Tablet, wherever you are.

Best Docking Stations for iPod

Posted in Portable Players, iPod Players on May 19th, 2010 by melody – 1 Comment

All the gadgets I introduce you next are respectively having a built-in iPod docking station. Of course they also can function as an independent speaker for other digital players. But they are all a little expensive just like what apple products are in the similar type of products. So how about their features and quality? Let’s go and see.

Best Docking Stations for iPod

The mStation($130) is a compact package with a dedicated subwoofer to boost the base — a less expensive packaging of the mStation Tower, our overall winner. Testers loved this product and found the remote actually worked well. The package comes with iPod dock and a cable for connecting to other electronics. In seven colors: white, black, blue, green, pink, silver, and red.

Best Docking Stations for iPod

In addition to playing your iPod, the Memorex Mi1111($100) lets you access the airwaves on the digital AM/FM radio with station presets and spin your favorite discs in the top-loading CD player. It comes with a remote, though most testers weren’t impressed, since it wasn’t reactive unless aimed straight on. iPod dock adapters are included. In black or white. read more »

When Coming across Problems in Using Apple Apps, Look here

Posted in Portable Players, iPod Players on May 18th, 2010 by melody – Comments Off

ipod-classicThere are several problems you may come across in using Apple apps. The most concerned is that if the app in iPod touch can be used in iPad, in another word, if the same app can be used in different products of Apple. Well, it is possible:

QUESTION: I own an iPod Touch, but am considering getting a Wi-Fi iPad. Will my current Touch applications work on the iPad?

ANSWER: Generally, your apps will work on the iPad. The iPad, iPod Touch and iPhone use the same operating system, but there are a few caveats.

IPad apps use the entire screen. Touch apps can be stretched to fill the screen, but then the app’s graphics look pixilated. Some apps require a GPS or a camera. The Wi-Fi iPad has neither. The more expensive 3G versions will have GPS, but no camera.

Your iPod Touch doesn’t have a camera or GPS so you shouldn’t have problems with apps you already purchased. This certainly isn’t a reason to avoid the iPad.

Q: My software downloads each picture from my camera every time I connect it. My images keep getting duplicated. How can I stop this?

A: You didn’t mention what software you’re using, so I can’t give you specific instructions. Look for a Settings, Options or Preferences menu. There should be an option for deleting pictures from the camera.

This would happen after the pictures are transferred, of course. It keeps the camera’s memory card clean and prevents duplicate photos. There may also be a setting to turn off automatic downloads, allowing you to download your images manually. Another solution would be to switch programs. I recommend Google Picasa. read more »
