Theme Song for the FIFA World Cup South Africa 2010: Wavin’ Flag

Posted in Music, Pop Music on April 16th, 2010 by melody – 14 Comments

The official theme song for the FIFA World Cup South Africa 2010 has been chosen. It is “Wavin’ Flag” by the somalian artist K’Naan. Wavin’ Flag is not specially created for the World Cup, but originally recorded by K’Naan off his ablum “Troubadour”, then re-recorded as a Haiti tribute and features the likes of Drake, Justin Bieber, Kardinal Offishall, Avril Lavigne, Jully Black, Sam Rovebers and Nikki Yanofsky.

On hearing the openning tunes, you may get that it is from Africa, because it obviously smacks of Africa. And it extols freedom, equality and love, and expresses the most sincere feeling for Africa, that is why Wavin’ Flag is chosen by the World Cup Organising Committee as the theme song.

Soweto Gospel Choir Brings you Joy of Faith

Soweto gospel choir

I come to know Soweto Gospel Choir through Akon. Yes, it is Akon that let me get aquainted with Africa music, Africa culture, and other musicans/singers, as well as activities and organizations. So I’d like to write something about him in the future. Now back to Soweto Gospel Choir:

The Soweto Gospel Choir was formed to celebrate the unique and inspirational power of African Gospel music. The 26-strong choir, under the direction of David Mulovhedzi and Beverly Bryer, draws on the best talent from the many churches in and around Soweto where Lebo M live in his childhood. The choir is dedicated to sharing the joy of faith through music with audiences around the world.

Soweto Gospel Choir is going to make a performance in FiFa World Cup 2010 that will held in South Africa this June. I always think chorus is more easily shocked than solo, expeically for the songs that reveal the reality and express kind of genuine feeling, such as “We are the World” for Africa famine and “Oh Africa” for world cup. Soweto is such a simple organization which brings us the joy of faith and soothes inner unquiet, that I hope more and more people can know them and listen to them.

A Song of Africa and An Access to Africa Music

Africa music

I’d like to learn more about Africa Music. But now I just know I like its buoyant rhythem and singers with simplicity, as well as dances which always seems impromptu. You know what I say is not hip-hop(of course it is another kind of exciting and appealing music), but country music from ordinary people who have enthusiasm in music. Now the song I recommend to you is right the kind I like very much among Africa music, although I can’t get clear what the lyric is.

What Africa impresses me is a vocabulary: tropical rain forest. I don’t know why but deeply believe that people who live there are bold and uninhibited. And I feel the characters like that have been a remarkable element in their music, which may be why I like Africa music. So Africa is really a country I dream to go.

Go Back to ‘We Are The World’ For Africa Famine

Posted in Classic Music, Music on February 6th, 2010 by melody – 5 Comments

we are the world 1At the night after the Grammy Awards 2010, ‘We are the world’ was remade for Haiti victims in the same studios where the original song was laid down  in 1985 because of Africa famine. I have to admit that it is not until now I get to know this song ‘We are the World’ and its goal to help fight hunger in Africa. And what surprises me a lot is, the composers of it are Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie, both of whom have given me a great impression for their so many classic songs.

It was said that because Quincy Jones, who secondly produced the new version of ‘We are the World’ since 1985, changed the lyrics that was ever completely written by Michael Jackson, many superstars rejected to attend the new recording for that there was no respect for original version and Michael Jackson, including Taylor swift, Beyonce, and Lady Gaga. Now matter how, I am curious about the 2010 version but much more appreciate the classic.

Listen here, can you make out who is who?
